ND Women's Basketball Alum Ruth Riley to Speak at Food Bank Luncheon on Thursday, April 17, 2014

Food Bank to Commemorate 20 Years of Feeding the Hungry in Northern Indiana

The Food Bank will commemorate 20 years of feeding the hungry in northern Indiana with an anniversary luncheon.  The keynote speaker is  Ruth Riley.  Ms. Riley is a professional basketball player for the Atlanta Dream and passionate about using the platform of sport to create awareness and social change.

Ruth graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a B.A. in psychology.  She has experienced success at every level, winning an NCAA Championship, two WNBA titles and an Olympic Gold Medal.  Since her first year in the WNBA, in 2001, she has worked tirelessly with the NBA/WNBA Cares programs nationally and abroad, promoting education, youth and family development, and health related initiatives.

In her of season, Ruth serves as a spokesperson with the UN Foundation's malaria campaign, Nothingbutnets, Share Our Strength's NoKidHungry campaign and a NGO, Inspire Transformation that focues on HIV/AIDS Prevention and awareness in South Africa.

The Food Bank's 20th Anniversary Luncheon will take place on Thursday, April 17, from 11:45 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. at the Gillespie Conference Center, 52995 State Road 2, South Bend.  Tickets are $50 per person or $375 for a table of eight.  Reservations must be made by April 7.  Tickets will not be sold at the door.    For more information, please call (574) 232.9986 ext. 124 or email mmartinec@feedingamerica.org.
