Food Bank and Food Pantry Closed Due to Inclement Weather

The Food Bank of Northern Indiana and the Community Food Pantry of St. Joseph County are closed, today, Monday, November 26, due to winter weather conditions. The Food Bank will reopen at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, November 27, and the Community Food Pantry will reopen on Wednesday, November 28, from 2 p.m. - 6 p.m.
If you must be outside today, be safe.

Frozen Turkey Give-Away

Thanks to the generosity of Beacon Health Systems, turkeys will be distributed to those in need making this Thanksgiving a bit more delicious, too!

Thanks to the generosity of Beacon Health System and its employees, the Food Bank of Northen Indiana will hold a mobile turkey distribution in Marshall County at the Bremen Township Fire Department on Tuesday, November 20.

Frozen turkeys will be distributed; first come, first served while supplies last. One turkey per household, for those in need of food assistance.

26th Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Set for Saturday, May12

Let's #StampOutHunger and Restock the Food Bank of Northern Indiana for the Summer Months When the Need is High and Food Donations are Low

On the second Saturday in May, letter carriers in more than 10,000 communities will collect food donations along their postal routes to restock food banks and pantries during Stamp Out Hunger.   Stamp Out Hunger is the nation’s largest one-day food drive and the Food Bank of Northern Indiana’s largest drive each year.

The Food Bank’s 2018 goal is to collect 100,000 pounds of non-perishable food items to restock its shelves for the summer months when the need is high and food drive donations are typically low.

A Benefit for the Food 4 Kids Backpack Program

Hit the links to feed hungry kids – 1 in 4 kids in northern Indiana lives in a household where they don’t have enough to eat. 

During the 2017-2018 school year, 2,230 children in Elkhart, LaPorte, Marshall, Starke and St. Joseph Counties received a sack of food for weekends and holiday breaks during the school year. Money raised will benefit the Food 4 Kids Backpack Program for the 2018-2019 school year.

In observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, the Food Bank of Northern Indiana and the Community Food Pantry of St. Joseph County are closed on Monday, January I5.                          

The Food Bank will reopen for normal business hours on Tuesday, January 16.  The Community Food Pantry of St. Joseph County will reopen on Wednesday, January 17, for pantry shopping from 2 p.m. - 6 p.m.  In addition, the Community Food Pantry will be open on Friday, January 19, from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Hours for Christmas and New Year's Day Holidays

The Community Food Pantry of St. Joseph County will be closed beginning Friday, December 23, 2016, and will reopen on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, from 2 p.m. - 6 p.m.

The Food Bank will be closed beginning at Noon on Friday, Dec. 23, for the Christmas holiday and be open Tuesday, Dec. 27 - Friday, Dec. 30 from 8 a.m. - Noon.  The Food Bank will be closed on Monday, Jan. 2, 2017, for the New Year's holiday and reopen for normal business hours on Tuesday, January 3, 2017.

Effort Brings Food Directly to Those in Need of Food Assistance

Fresh perishable items (dairy, grains, produce and protein) and dry goods are offered free of charge to northern Indiana residents. The Food Bank sets up tables at pre-scheduled locations where people can “shop” and select items that best meet their needs.

Mobile food pantries are first come, first served for those in need of food assistance, based on available product, while supplies last. Patrons are asked to bring bags or boxes to transport their items home.

Volunteer Sweepers Needed to Assist Letter Carriers Along Routes During 23rd Annual Food Drive

The Food Bank of Northern Indiana is in need of volunteer sweepers to assist letter carriers along their routes on Saturday, May 9, during the 23rd Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.  Volunteers will assist collecting food donations along all South Bend routes.  Volunteers are needed for two shifts - 7:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.  Volunteers will work in teams of two and are required to use their own vehicle.  Call (574) 232.9986 ext. 137 for more information.
