Food Bank and Community Food Pantry of St. Joseph County -- 2016 Holiday Hours

Hours for Christmas and New Year's Day Holidays

The Community Food Pantry of St. Joseph County will be closed beginning Friday, December 23, 2016, and will reopen on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, from 2 p.m. - 6 p.m.

The Food Bank will be closed beginning at Noon on Friday, Dec. 23, for the Christmas holiday and be open Tuesday, Dec. 27 - Friday, Dec. 30 from 8 a.m. - Noon.  The Food Bank will be closed on Monday, Jan. 2, 2017, for the New Year's holiday and reopen for normal business hours on Tuesday, January 3, 2017.

Hunger Action Month

This September marks the ninth year the Feeding America network of food banks has organized this annual call to action and the seventh year the Food Bank of Northern Indiana has participated in the Hunger Action Month movement. Hunger is a community health, school performance and economic issue that exists in every county in the United States.

Throughout the month, the Food Bank is partnering with businesses and organizations to engage the community and bring awareness to hunger insecurity in northern Indiana.

Volunteer Sweepers Needed to Assist Letter Carriers Along Routes During 23rd Annual Food Drive

The Food Bank of Northern Indiana is in need of volunteer sweepers to assist letter carriers along their routes on Saturday, May 9, during the 23rd Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.  Volunteers will assist collecting food donations along all South Bend routes.  Volunteers are needed for two shifts - 7:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.  Volunteers will work in teams of two and are required to use their own vehicle.  Call (574) 232.9986 ext. 137 for more information.

Give Local St. Joseph County - Your Chance to Help the Food Bank of Northern Indiana Now and From Now On

24-Hour Giving Event on Tuesday, May 5, Will Benefit 52 Participating Charities in St. Joseph County

The Community Foundation of St. Joseph County will host Give Local St. Joseph County, a one-day giving event on Tuesday, May 5.  Every dollar donated to the Food Bank of Northern Indiana that day will be increased by a share of an estimated $3 million dollars in matching funds prived by Give Local St. Joseph County sponors, with a goal of raising a total of $5 million to benefit 52 charities in St. Joseph County.  Give Local St. Joseph County is tied to Give Local America, a national event, on May 5, which involves scores of community foundations across America.

16th Annual Chili Cook-Off

American Culinary Federation South Bend Chefs and Cooks Association hosts this delicious autumn outing in a new location - Beutter Park in downtown Mishawaka

The 16th Annual Chili Cook-Off has moved to a new location - Beutter Park in downtown Mishawaka.  This year's event has moved to coincide with Mishawaka Park's Oktoberfest.  Plenty of music, beverages, activities and CHILI!

Saturday, October 25 - 2:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. Rain or Shine.

Admission is $5 for adults; $2 for children ages 10 and under.  Proceeds in part benefit the Food Bank of Northern Indiana.

Healthy Choices Market

Learn. Choose. Live.

An initiative of the Food Bank, the Healthy Choices Market is a program created to provide low-income individuals with diabetes and high blood pressure a dignified, educational experience to encourage healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle.  This program is a partnership with Memorial Hospital and St. Joseph Regional Medical Center.

The Healthy Choices Market is a doctor referral and appointment only program and will begin welcoming clients on August 1.

Largest Wiffle Ball Tournament Comes to Michiana. Proceeds in Part to Benefit Food Bank of Northern Indiana

This tournament will be held on Friday, May 30, and Saturday, May 31.  Friday night will feature pool play uder the lights from 6 p.m. - Midnight followed by playoffs from 8 a.m. - Noon.  Awards will take place at 1 p.m.

Friends and family will receive a free entry to the park with a donated non-perishable food item for the Food Bank of Northern Indiana.

The Food Bank will commemorate 20 years of feeding the hungry in northern Indiana with an anniversary luncheon.  The keynote speaker is  Ruth Riley.  Ms. Riley is a professional basketball player for the Atlanta Dream and passionate about using the platform of sport to create awareness and social change.

Donation Drive-In Slated for Monday, February 17, at the WSBT Stations

On Monday, February 17, WSBT-TV, WSBT Radio Group and Martin's will team team up with the Food Bank of Northern Indiana for "Neighbors in Need."  Drop off your non-perishable food, personal care item or cash donation at the WSBT Stations, 1301 E. Douglas Road, Mishawaka, from 6 a.m. - 7 p.m.  In northern Indiana, 16% of the residents are food insecure.  It has been a hard winter for those in need.  Your donation will make a difference!

We Need You!  22nd Annual NALC Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive – The nation’s largest one-day food drive and the Food Bank’s largest food drive each year takes place the second Saturday in May.  Community residents are asked to put a bag of donated food items by their mailbox by 8 a.m.

Effort Brings Food Directly to Those in Need

Fresh perishable items (dairy, grains, produce and protein) and dry goods are offered free of charge to northern Indiana residents.  The Food Bank's mobile food pantry team sets up tables at pre-scheduled locations where people can "shop" and select items that best meet their needs.
