September is Hunger Action Month. Join the movement to end hunger.
Tuesday, September 10, is Hunger Action Day.
- Go orange for hunger awareness. Show us your orangeyist orange and share your thoughts about hunger using #HungerActionDay, #HungerActionMonth and tag @Feeding America and the Food Bank on Instagram @foodbknindiana, Facebook @Food-Bank-of-Northern-Indiana and X @FoodBkNIndiana.
Every action counts!
- Organize a food drive at your workplace, club, or place of worship to restock our partner agencies’ shelves or hold a fundraiser to benefit the Food Bank to purchase food. Our most needed items are boxed breakfast cereal, boxed dinner meals (any variety), canned fish and meat, canned beans (black, garbanzo, pinto and kidney), peanut butter and jelly, macaroni and cheese, household cleaning products and personal care items. No glass items, please. Pop top lids are preferred.
Every $1 donated to the Food Bank provides up to five meals or eight pounds of food for our hungry neighbors.
- Share your time and talent or plan a teambuilding day volunteering at the Food Bank or one of our 114 partner agencies. Encourage others to join the movement to end hunger but sharing on your social media and tagging the Food Bank, too.
- Visit feedindiana.org to learn more about our programs benefiting hungry neighbors in Elkhart, Kosciusko, LaPorte, Marshall, St. Joseph, and Starke Counties – Agency Direct Retail Pick-Up Program, Food 4 Kids Backpack Program, Mobile Food Distribution Program, Senior Nutrition Program, Commodity Supplemental Food Program and The Emergency Food Assistance Program.
- Encourage community leaders and legislators to visit the Food Bank and its 114 partner agencies to learn more about hunger in their communities.
According to Feeding America’s Map the Meal Gap (FY22), 102,680 (12.8%) of neighbors including 32,860 (18.3%) children in northern Indiana are food insecure
During the month of September, join in the conversation about hunger in northern Indiana and share a message on social media and tag the Food Bank on Facebook @Food-Bank-of-Northern-Indiana, Instagram @foodbknindianandiana, and X @ FoodBkNIndiana.
When people are fed, futures are nourished.
Every action – big or small – is one step closer to communities where no one is hungry.
