Volunteer

Share your time and talent with the Food Bank!  Individual and group volunteers are vital to the Food Bank’s operation.  In 2024, 9,891 volunteers contributed 25,630 hours to the Food Bank.  We need you to help us feed our hungry neighbors!

Ongoing projects include:

  • Assisting clients in their shopping experience at the Community Food Pantry of St. Joseph County.
  • Assembling food packs for our programs.
  • Special cleaning and organization projects.
  • Sorting and separating food donations.
  • Occasional office projects including mailings, computer work, and filing.

Volunteer shifts are available Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Food Bank with extended hours until 6 p.m. on Wednesday.  Parking is free and our facility is located at 702 Chapin Street in downtown South Bend.  We're located on a TRANSPO bus route with a stop near the Food Bank.

Occasional special events require volunteer support including the National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive on the second Saturday of May.

The Food Bank of Northern Indiana does not accept court-ordered volunteers.

It is mandatory for all volunteers and guests to wear closed-toe shoes (preferably sneakers) while in the warehouse.
